Taking some time to record EP I realized I've been out of touch and just wanted to let you know what I've been up to. I've been taking time off from playing to focus on recording my EP that I'm so excited about. I really love the whole long recording process. I'm working with my friend Chris Zembower (he mixed and mastered my last album) and I'll be in touch here and there with updates and of course I'll let you know when it's ready to be heard! Check out this video of IMC Matt Dunning of the Cambridge Chronicle posted a great online article and video of last Thursday's opening show of IMC. It was such a wonderful night. Take a look. BIO Jenn Taranto is a singer, first and foremost. Her music, at this early point in her career, has been very mellow, ambient and serious and relies heavily on violins and vocal harmonies. Jenn's debut album, Move on from Me, released in May 2006, was recorded in her apartment and reflects the serious and obsessive part of Jenn's personality. Most songs explore common themes such as her behavior in relationships and her inability to let things go. Dan MacIntosh of Indie-Music.com wrote, "There is a sadness and a beauty to Jenn Taranto's music, and it's not always clear which of these two distinct descriptions will have the final say." The album, which she first planned to record using vocal and guitar layering, evolved to combine a great deal of layering violin parts, performed by Katie Quann. Much of Katie's work was improvised. Justin Kipp, Jenn's boyfriend and musician, influenced the overall orchestration of the album. Most recently, Jenn was the winner of the Radio Crystal Blue Airplay Vote and has been receiving airplay on other internet and college radio stations. She has been featured in Northeast Performer, Indie-Music.com and Metronome Magazine and has played shows with Jenny Owen Youngs and The Last Town Chorus. Locally, in Boston where she lives and along with violinist Katie Quann and guest string players, Jenn performs regularly at Lizard Lounge and has performed at Toad, Club Passim, ZuZu and Abbey Lounge, as well as the surrounding New England area. They also have shows frequently in NY, where Jenn is originally from, and have played at The Knitting Factory, The Brooklyn Lyceum, Mo Pitkin's, The Bitter End, CBs Gallery, and Laila Lounge. She has performed in London, St. Barths, and Salt Lake City as well. Jenn completed a West Coast tour the summer of 06 to support the release, and found her audiences to be very receptive. She performs regularly at train stops in Boston, which has immensely helped her to develop a local following and to quickly sell many copies of the album. This year, Jenn is anxious to push her sound and career even further. She's begun arranging many of the string parts to her new songs and has found she loves doing it. Jenn is looking forward to performing and touring more and is excited to write songs that will support a bigger sound, with more instruments and to really |
